What we do
Oral Contrast
Prior to most abdominal imaging, an oral contrast used to highlight the intestinal track and stomach is administered.
We ask that you come in 1½ hours early to drink this contrast material or, if you are within walking distance of the center, you can pick up the contrast the day before or the day of the exam and drink the contrast ahead of time. Whichever way you prefer, we will offer comfortable surroundings with TV and Internet services for your convenience prior to your exam.
The contrast is mixed with apple or cranapple juice or with water. If you decide to drink the contrast at home or at the office, we will provide easy instructions when you pick up the contrast material.
Please let us know if you are allergic to iodine. An alternative oral contrast that is barium based can be used in place of our normal contrast material.
