- Contrast Used for CT Scans
Not all CT procedures require the use of contrast material. However, in many cases the contrast used can help to define anatomy and help delineate abnormal structures in the body. There are two types of contrasts used for CT imaging, IV and oral. The IV contrast is injected into a vein in the arm and this contrast circulates through the blood stream. The oral contrast is swallowed and this contrast highlights the stomach and intestinal track.
